Mike White - Ceramics
I’ve been working in clay for two years and still have much to learn. I’m trying to push my boundaries in terms of form and scale, learning by my mistakes and profiting from happy accidents—after all it’s only a piece of clay. It’s fascinating and I’m having fun.
I’m inspired by the beautiful and symmetrical shapes into which mere clay can be drawn up, by the work of other potters and by the thoughts in my head. I love Moon Jars—large, near-spherical pots originating in Korea. In Britain, Adam Buick and others are continuing and developing this form. I’m making smaller versions for myself, together with pots of more conventional shapes. My work is intended to be seen and handled with as much pleasure as I get from making it.
