My name is Maisie, I am 24 and I’m an illustrator. I am passionate about creating imagery based on the small and simple things in life such as growing plants, botanics, wildlife and getting lost outdoors. I also have two cockapoo puppies called Chester and Oscar who keep me company at home while I draw away. I studied illustration at the Arts University in Bournemouth and since graduating I have created work using a combination of hand drawn and digital skills however I have focused my practice more recently on hand carving my designs onto Lino and printing them to make unique and one off
Hours spent drawing as a kid gave way to a career in fashion. Opening a boutique in Holmfirth in 1972, followed by Pink Cadillac in Altrincham and Huddersfield, led to a long involvement in the fashion industry where Penny was widely respected for her designs and retail flair. The story comes full circle in early 2014 when she found time to return to her love of art. Penny’s work ranges from pop art developed on an iPad to her current medium of acrylic on canvas. The present focus is figurative, often depicting girls experiencing life, but that may change..… One of Penny’s paintings (Jess – acrylic on canvas)
2018 series || U N T I T L E D || mixed media on board Painting and drawing onto MDF, glass, metal and other found objects allows the materials to behave in a variety of ways. Applying paint, scratching away, adding more and removing some, creates a repetitive, cathartic process until a balanced outcome is achieved. Much like the physical process of the installations (which can be seen on the website) the work is documented throughout using photography. In addition to visual elements, text is used in response to a variety of subjects. Some refers to a found diary from childhood, as does the naivety of repeated shapes. www.charlottebillingham.co.uk Instagram: @charlottebillingham.art Contact via website
